About the Survey

Branciforte Fire Protection District

The Branciforte Fire Protection District (FPD) is faced with insurmountable financial and operational challenges. After due diligence, the Board of Directors has determined that a reorganization with the Scotts Valley FPD is the best way to ensure continued fire and emergency services.

Survey Question: Should the Branciforte Fire District Board approve a $50,000 study to determine the amount each parcel owner would be assessed, subject to a vote of the parcel owners at a later date, to keep the fire station open?

Why produce a study? Without the study, there can be no cost/benefit analysis, or any opportunity for parcel owners to vote on whether or not to approve paying any additional parcel assessments required to keep the Branciforte Fire Station open; therefore, the Branciforte Fire Station would no longer be operational upon completion of the reorganization with Scotts Valley FPD. In this case, fire and emergency services to the former Branciforte Fire Protection District territory would be provided from the two existing Scotts Valley FPD fire stations, with assistance from neighboring stations in Santa Cruz and Central Fire District.
